Water Balance Model
TThe Cahill Water Balance Model (WBM) is an interactive computer application that allows water resource engineers and planners to analyze current and future watershed conditions. First created to run as an extension to ESRI's ArcView GIS software version 3.2, IT staff programmers have recently converted and enhanced the application to work with ESRI's newest release.

The WBM was originally developed to support Green Valleys Association and the Sustainable Watershed Management Plan, a technical analysis and PA DCNR-funded River Conservation Plan for the water resources in Northern Chester County.

The WBM integrates spatial data including watershed areas, existing land use and current municipal zoning with rigorous water quality and quantity criteria in order to sustain the water resources in Northern Chester County. In order to determine what will happen in the future, developable parcels are overlaid with current zoning. This provides planners with a powerful estimate of the future impacts of development on water resources.
