Surface Infiltration Basins--very similar to Infiltration Beds--also use soil and vegetative components for stormwater management. The Infiltration Basin is designed to temporarily impound stormwater on the surface until it infiltrates into and through the soil, rather then into a subsurface bed. Basins are generally planted with low-maintenance, quick establishing, flood tolerant native grasses and are designed to empty within 24 - 36 hours to protect the plantings. This type of stormwater management technique has great economic benefits, as costs are minimized by reducing or removing the need for earth removal, stone aggregate, and geotextile fabric.
